Lara Stone Makes Sweaters Sexy

When we think of sweaters, I’m sure the first thoughts that come to mind do not include the words “sexy”, “cleavage” or “appealing.” However, leave it to Lara Stone to squeeze her notoriously curvy frame into some of the season’s most normal sweaters and leave us drooling over knit and wool.

Here, Stone epitomizes cozy winter chic in the season’s most necessary essential. This old-school-glamour-meets-modern-housewife editorial proves that Lara Stone can make anything sexy. Well done.

Illuminated

Excerpt from 812–Emily Dickinson

A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.
It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.

LOVE #4 – Baby It's You

The lineup is ridiculous. I don’t even need to insert dialogue/writing/my opinion here.

Carmen Kass, Barbara Palvin, Sienna Miller and Lara Stone are only a few of the beauties enlisted for Love Magazine‘s Issue #4.

Thoughts on the profound sexiness?

Look of the Day – Bare Essentials

I am definitely inching towards a “back to basics” mentality when it comes to my personal style these days. I never thought myself a minimalist, but the fashion world can get so caught up in trends that the only look one can assure will be timeless is a basic, chic ensemble complete with clean lines and simple colors.

I love her long skirt, exposed back, platform booties and most of all, summer-perfect face, sans makeup. The look is undeniably timeless.

Art Inspired: Richard Sweeney is Makin' Paper

I find it intriguing when artists find a medium that veers off the track of the ordinary by utilizing everyday items we render meaningless; case in point: Richard Sweeney‘s paper sculptures. These intricate mini-sculptures surpass the awe-inducing effects of origami and skyrocket to an entirely new level of paper-constructed cool.

Sweeny, a young 26-year-old hailing from the UK, says of his chosen art form: “The limitations of paper as a form making material offer a challenge, which through playful investigation results in tangible models.“.

As you can see, he can take paper and turn it into something undeniably fantastic.

Thoughts?

Shopping Warning – Prices to Increase in the Next Year

As I sit here near-broke trying to figure out how I can manage the next few weeks of my life before my student-loan checks arrive, this news has put a damper on my high hopes. According to the New York Post, companies with large amounts of merchandise (think Forever 21 and Macy’s) cannot afford to produce the product in our own country, while China has the capabilities and the capacity to produce these large amounts for less money.

However, production costs in China are set to rise by 10% this year, making your favorite 20$ dress at Forever 21 now a few bucks more expensive. The same problem will go for Macy’s, their moderately priced attire will rise in cost as well, giving more business to stores like H&M who, despite having over 2,000 stores in 77 different countries, rely on no middle men and have in-house designers and production.

So, this is just a warning: while some of our favorite cheap thrills might be increasing in price, places like H&M will still be able to sell dresses for the price of a Starbuck’s Frappucino.

Lanvin A/W Ad Campaign

Albert Elbaz’s A/W collection makes every wearer a lady of the night, with lustrous textures and a color palette that automatically necessitates an evening downtown. Feathers, hot pink lips and kohl black eyes give the collection a definite allure.

Thoughts about this collection in comparison with others?

Mischka Goes Preppy for Fall 2010 – Lookbook

The notorious skater-brand Mischka has semi-surprisingly hopped on the preppy-bound bandwagon for their A/W collection, showcasing all-American staples like the varsity jacket, American-flag-clad sweaters, argyle patterned socks and plaid button-ups. However, the label maintains its badass front by sticking with the messages on their printed T’s, which are arguably the most sought-after items in their collection season after season.

Visit the L.A.-based company’s NYC blog to find out more deets on the release date and any events that may pertain to the launch.

In Need of a Laptop Bag/Backback that Doesn't Look Like Your Little Brother's

As of late, I have been toting around my laptop, which is equivalent to the weight of a small underfed child, in a purse rather than a laptop bag. What with the purchases of an external hard drive (my second one), a 90$ Metro Card for the month (hope I don’t lose it like I have my last three), and a few inexcusable trips to some boutiques, my pockets have nicely asked me not to abuse them again for at least another week. However, my back/spine is currently winning the battle of abuse, thus, I ask you, my loves: what brands or styles of laptop bags or backpacks do you all use? Why do you love them?

My credentials only include three things, and they must be met: MUST be under 100$ (rich bitches, I excuse you now),  MUST not look like it belongs to a child and cannot be something sold everywhere, and MUST MUST MUST be durable. After all, I am going to school for journalism and at any given moment I may also be lugging around my hard drive, video camera and/or an extra pair of shoes if my heels decide to break.

So, help me. Give me brands, stores, styles…I’ll take anything at this point. My back is on the brink so my pockets will just have to get over it.
