Trend Alert! Makeup + Beauty – Spring/Summer 2010

Although spring and summer bring to mind beachy hair and au natural makeup, including completely naked faces, the S/S 2010 runway shows boasted a different story.

At Dior, Galliano took cues from film noir, and pastel lids, matte skin and red lips completed this old-school femme fetale look.

Jean Paul Gaultier also took cues from the movies, but for this collection, the silver screen inspired the red lips + smokey eyes killer combo. Usually associated with winter looks, the bold concoction is a nice surprise for spring. However, these looks are not for the faint of heart, nor are they for humid temps. There is a difference between a smokey eye and a runny eye.

At Versace, glamour reigned supreme, with two-toned hair and a variety of smokey eyes completing the look, while pale lips and faces put bronzer and faux tans on the back burner.

All I can say for Marc Jacobs is “80′s club kid.” No description necessary.

Winged eyeliner and disheveled up-do’s gave Lanvin’s S/S 2010 look a sexy new take on glamour. Wide-eyed and with dewy skin, models like Lily Donaldson looked absolutely perfect for the time of year when we all unveil a little more skin.

Grammy Getups: Who Wore What

Red carpet events have become quite boring and old, with actresses and singers alike wearing gowns that sparkle but don’t dazzle. There was a slight improvement at the Grammy’s, but I was only partially wowed. I have included some of my favorite looks from the evening, and left out those who annoy me and whose ensembles should have been left dangling on the hanger (Miley, Taylor Swift, etc).

Even Lady Gaga’s getup brought to mind a possible Cher ensemble. Nevertheless, despite the lackluster duds and lack of innovation, I appreciated these ensembles and am crossing my fingers that red carpet fashion is upgraded asap.
