Leighton Meester: My Favorite Character of 2009

People on the nets are going crazy for the “best of 2009″ lists that everyone seems to be compiling. I, on the other hand, have just started my Christmas shopping; it turns out I am a professional procrastinator when it comes to holiday shopping. In other words, I have not had the time to compile dozens of lists to name off the “best of”s. In fact, I only PUT the best of anything on my site, so I need not repeat myself simply because it is the end of the year.

So, I have chosen to feature Leighton Meester, aka Queen B, Blaire Waldorf, as my favorite character on TV; and I chose to do this because I do not, in fact, ever watch a lot of TV. I make sure to catch Gossip Girl, but otherwise, I am tuned in to news or weather, and have a lack of interest for most sitcoms. I have simply been too busy.

But how could I not mention the best bitchy-queen on TV? She makes the girls of Mean Girls seem like Mother Theresa’s. Blaire, while being bitchy, always had the most impeccable wardrobe; whether she was being a con artist with crown-like/headbands, seducing Chuck into getting her way, or bossing everyone around, she was best at being mean and marvelous at being gorgeous. Even when Blaire shed tears, her mascara never ran, (water proof?), her hair never fell (spray?), and her shirt never wrinkled.

However, Leighton Meester, the real person behind the character, has an impeccable sense of style. I love that she often chooses to wear under-the-radar designers to major events. She has a rock-and-roll edge that Blaire would frown upon, which is why the character on TV and the woman in real life have caused both inspiration as well as a few laughs.
