"Open Air" – by Mel Karch for Marie Claire Italy – January 2010

Can someone enlighten me as to who this model is? She brings life to already sublime scenery, a task difficult to master that can also go easily unnoticed.

I think we could all use a little open air, no? Lay on a cliff or something; it looks exhilarating.

Mark Weaver Screen Print & Graphic Art

The infamous Andy Warhol invented the so-called art form of screen prints, but many others have followed, and not necessarily right in his footsteps. It is only natural for art to develop and change over decades, and Mark Weaver is a perfect example of the change. However, like his predecessor, Weaver is very much embedded in pop culture: he has a facebook fan page, a twitter account (follow him), and a page on flickr.

His tongue-in-cheek screen prints often have large printed words, while other pieces simply let the objects/subjects speak to the viewer. Audiences can take away a multitude of meanings from his work; even the pieces that have words plastered across are open for interpretation. Found photography, architecture, bold-faced type and landscapes all make for an impressively postmodern form of artistic expression, which many may criticize (“I could do that”) while even more may adore (“How does he…?”).

I Don't Know WHAT to DO or WEAR on New Years Eve

I may be alone in thinking this, but I truly believe that New Years Eve is a semi-overrated holiday. I like the concept: being up and out and looking ravishing when the clock strikes midnight and a new year begins, but sometimes I feel that there is so much hype surrounding this infamous night. Why spend you salary on a new dress for New Years Eve if your resolution is to save more money? I’d rather dress up on a random night for a random happy hour than to show up at a party where every woman is trying to out-sparkle the other.

Hmph. Call me Scrooge, but I STILL have no idea what I am going to wear or even do. Suggestions, anydear?

Leighton Meester in Christopher Kane + YSL

Even though I just featured Miss Meester as my favorite character (as Blaire Waldorf) of the year, I could not help but post this beautiful ensemble chosen by none other than Leighton Meester.

Le chic, no? Pairing the high end (YSL pumps) with the mainstream (Christopher Kane) is an equation that equals perfection. I’ve always been amazing at math :)

Look of the Day – Sweater Dress + Boots

Winter brings groans and moans from myself and many surrounding me. I just love dressing for warmer weather; I have always felt that with winter comes a heavy burden that requires mucho layering and clunky gloves. However, as I have grown older and oh-so-wise, I learned that one can, in fact, dress chicly even amidst snowfall and whipping winds.

Take, for example, this simple semi-oversized sweater dress paired with knee-high boots and a chic quilted Chanel bag.

Winter done well.

People's Market – Spring/Summer 2010

With everyone remaining obsessed with distressed leather and the ever-present punk chunky studs, it is refreshing to see a collection that utilizes prints and feminine cuts instead of the never ending androgynous vibe that has been around for a few seasons now. Don’t get me wrong: I am a huge fan of oversized t-shirt dresses and I own more than a few stud-adorned pieces, but everything must have a balance. I enjoy a printed dress every now and then.

Which is why I enjoy this collection. So congrats Dexter Wong, for rebelling against the rebellious trend.

This is not Lily Donaldson? + Gold Smokey Eye

An alternative to the usual black and gray smokey eye, this editorial for February’s Vogue Nippon showcases a new way to make a statement: a smokey eye that dazzles with gold while still offering an instant impact.

Gorgeous.

And can you believe that this is not Lily Donaldson? They are so similar it is scary; maybe she was separated at birth? Allow me to introduce to to you, Lily Donaldson’s freakishly dead-on look-alike: Bregje Heinen.

Charles Hamilton's Free EP: "Normalcy" – DOWNLOAD

One of the most promising of the “new class” releases a self-produced free EP.

Air Agains is one of the dopest tracks, but all meet the standards Mr. Hamilton set for himself when he first hit the air waves.

Click the link after the pic for the download.

Sandra Backlund – Spring/Summer 2010

When it comes to architecture, we may think modern homes built in the hills of California or sky-scrapers, but designers like Buckland bring structure and architecture to modern day clothing, with many pieces rivaling the most intricate origami.

Every piece causes me to ask “How did she…?” before I pause and dismiss the question; some things are better left a curious mystery. As for this Spring/Summer 2010 collection: Buckland has me as inquisitive as ever, but even more so, envious of those who can afford to purchase even one of these pieces.

This collection is an example of art as fashion as opposed to the constant argument concerning fashion as art.

Nike SB Dunk High Premium – Wool

When I think of wool, I think of an itchy fabric that my grandmother used to make me wear when we went to church. However, these bad memories disappeared when I stumbled upon these dope additions to the SB Dunk family.

The tribal pattern offers a perfect color combination for a more subdued winter ensemble, while the bold black and white keep the sneak from looking too trendy.

Stateside release information has yet to be known, but they are available overseas (of course).
